22tracks is a music startup founded in 2009 by Vincent Reinders and Gilles de Smit. As a well-known hiphop DJ, Vincent was often asked to make playlists for his friends. At some point he decided to put those playlists online and this was the beginning of 22 tracks. He asked other DJ’s to add their expertise, and ended up with 22 playlists, each with 22 tracks selected by DJ’s from Amsterdam and now also Brussels. 22tracks became the fastest growing music startup in The Netherlands. They just started, filled a need and even managed to cooperate with the existing music-industry.

22tracks provides a quick overview of the latest music, promotes new artists and lets you discover new genres. In the two years of its existence it grew to be one of the most popular music platforms in The Netherlands and has won several awards, including The Next Web Startup Of The Year 2011 and Best New Music Initiative on renown music conference Noorderslag, Groningen. In five years, 22tracks hopes to be running in 22 cities and to become the world’s number one music recommendation service.

Vincent talks about going from a small idea to becoming one of the most promising startups in the music industry and about new business models. Furthermore, he tells the most inspiring stories about a new generation musicians making it on their own thanks to the internet.
